Job Description

Duties As a NUCLEAR POLICY & STRATEGY ANALYST at the GS-0301-14 some of your typical work assignments may include: Supports the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the statutory role to prepare military analysis, options, and plans to recommend to the President and the Secretary of Defense (SecDef) on matters related to strategic deterrence, U.S. nuclear force posture, nuclear capability requirements, and the modernization of U.S. nuclear forces and the underlying scientific and industrial base required to support them.Applies subject matter expertise in nuclear war plans including the integration of conventional and nuclear forces; nuclear operations; nuclear command, control, and communications; and intelligence collection and analysis to assess whether operation plans (OPLANs) developed by U.S. European Command meet Presidential military objectives and are consistent with extant policy guidance.Applies subject matter expertise and collaborates with a broad community of interagency stakeholders to develop national-level policies, strategies, and doctrine across specified areas of responsibility, as well as recommendations for Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff advice to the National Security Council, SecDef, and the President on nuclear weapons policy, strategic stability, and nuclear deterrenceCompiles information from a wide range of sources on U.S. and adversary nuclear force structure, posture, plans, and capabilities; the roles of nuclear forces in U.S. national security strategy; policy requirements and objectives for the U.S. to maintain a safe, secure, reliable, and effective strategic deterrent and to reassure U.S. allies and partners through robust regional security architecturesRequirements Conditions of EmploymentMust be a U.S. citizenMales born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective ServiceResume and supporting documents (See How To Apply)Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigationMay be required to successfully complete a probationary periodWork Schedule: Full TimeOvertime: OccasionallyTour of Duty: FlexibleRecruitment Incentives: May be AuthorizedFair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): ExemptFinancial Disclosure: Not RequiredTelework Eligibility: This position is not telework eligibleCOVID19: Please see, additional information.Drug Testing Designated Position: YesEmployee must obtain/maintain a Special Sensitive (Top Secret/SCI) security clearance Qualifications You may qualify at the GS-14, if you fulfill the following qualifications: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service: Applying policy, plans and strategy development processes within the Department and across the InteragencyAssessing current and future strategic environments, developing and implementing strategies to fulfill the roles of nuclear weapons in U.S. national security strategy, and identifying potential deficiencies in nuclear capabilities, force structure, and supporting infrastructure, with particular emphasis on the U.S. European Command (USEUCOM) Area of ResponsibilityAdvising high-ranking officials on United States extended deterrence commitments to NATO Allies, including NATO processes and procedures for developing and implementing nuclear policy and associated decisionsProviding strategic analysis of nuclear policy issues using Intelligence Community assessments, table-top exercises, and subject matter expertise to assess emerging operational doctrinal concepts and whether USEUCOM operation plans meet Presidential guidance and military objectives.
