Overview The Archdiocese of Chicago (AoC) is the third largest diocese in the United States and serves more than 2.2 million Catholics in 347 parishes in Cook and Lake Counties. Position Summary The Staff Accountant supports the financial accounting and reporting for the Archdiocese as a team member of the Financial Services department. As a member of the Controller’s Accounting & Reporting team, this position is responsible for monthly, quarterly and annual accounting and reporting, including the preparation of financial statements of the Archdiocese of Chicago required for external reporting in accordance with SEC and GAAP reporting guidelines. This includes working in conjunction with our external auditors in the completion of the audited annual financial statements. This position will be involved in other transformational opportunities for the accounting and reporting operations. Position Specifics Job Responsibilities Participate in Monthly, Quarterly and annual US GAAP accounting and close operations. Preparation of the Designated Funds and Pastoral Center U.S. GAAP financial statements. Preparation of financial data and support for the annual external audit as directed by Controller. Support the preparation of the Archdiocese of Chicago Consolidated financial statements. Support the preparation and reporting of bond covenants for bondholders, in conjunction with the Treasury team. Analyze GAAP financial statements to improve management decision-making as well as support the Chief Financial Officer in meetings with bond holders and other external stakeholders. Participate in transformational improvements for the accounting and reporting operations and systems including the use and enhancement of the One Stream financial system for US GAAP consolidations and reporting, and accounting and close optimization efforts. Participate in the review of current accounting policies, research accounting requirements, make recommendations for new policies, and lead the implementation of new accounting standard updates. Support internal controls to ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial processes, accounting and financial reporting. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting. CPA is desired. 2-4 years of accounting experience. Public accounting experience a plus. Financial statement / footnote preparation experience. Strong attention to detail. Excellent organizational skills. Strong communications skills. Ability to understand and participate in envisioning and delivering transformational changes for accounting and reporting operations. Demonstrated high integrity and ethics in all operations and responsibilities. Must demonstrate understanding, respect and support for Catholic Church teaching, mission, and values. Hiring preference will be given to candidates who are Catholic.
